If you have accidentally deleted important emails from your Gmail account, don’t worry; there is a chance to recover them. Gmail provides several options for email recovery, depending on how the emails were deleted and how long ago they happened. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you recover deleted emails:
1. Check the Trash/Bin Folder:
Open a web browser and login into your Gmail account.
On the left-hand side, find and click on the “More” option to reveal additional labels.
Look for the “Trash” or “Bin” folder. Click on it to open.
2. Search in Trash/Bin:
If you remember the subject or sender of the deleted email, use the search bar at the top of Gmail to search for it.
Enter relevant keywords or the email address of the sender to narrow down the search results.
3. Recover Deleted Emails:
Once you have located the deleted emails in the Trash/Bin folder, select the emails you want to recover by checking the checkboxes next to them.
Click on the “Move to” icon (folder icon with an arrow) located at the top and choose the desired folder to move the emails back to your inbox or another folder.
4. Recovering Emails from the Bin (if recently deleted):
If you have deleted emails within the past 30 days, they will be moved to the Trash/Bin folder. You can easily recover them by following the steps mentioned above.
5. Recovering Emails from the Spam or Trash Bin (after 30 days):
You can still try to recover the emails using the “Recover Deleted Items” option even if they have been in the Trash/Bin folder for more than 30 days or you have emptied the Trash/Bin.
Go to the Trash/Bin folder, and at the top, click on “Recover Deleted Items.”
There will be a pop-up window that displays the recoverable emails. When you have chosen your desired emails, click “Recover.”
6. Check Archived Emails:
Users occasionally mistakenly archive emails rather than delete them. Visit “All Mail” or click the “All Mail” label on the left side of Gmail to search for archived emails.
Note: If you are using a Gmail account through a client like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail, the emails you delete may not go to the Gmail Trash/Bin folder. Instead, they may be moved to the “Deleted Items” folder in the email client. You can check the respective “Deleted Items” folder in your email client to recover deleted emails.
Keep in mind that if you have permanently deleted emails from the Trash/Bin folder or your email client’s “Deleted Items” folder, it may not be possible to recover them.
It’s always a good practice to back up important emails regularly to prevent permanent loss in case of accidental deletion. Additionally, enable the “Undo Send” feature in Gmail settings to have a few seconds to undo email deletion.
